{Economist: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Finance signed, today, Thursday, in Baghdad a document to finalize and update the system of the General Customs Authority with the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, UNCTAD.

Finance Minister Ali Allawi said in a statement issued on the sidelines of the signing ceremony that "our country needs to improve public administration standards in all state departments, and the Ministry of Finance is committed to providing international best practices in all its units, and we are implementing an important program with the United Nations to upgrade financial management systems." "

He added, "This step is one among many steps in the reform and development journey that must be implemented," stressing that "the ministry is determined to implement the electronic customs data system (ASYCUDA) in the General Authority of Customs, which was provided free of charge as a result of the efforts of continuous meetings and meetings. with the United Nations Conference.

He pointed out that "a team of United Nations experts adopted the process of installing the system and training customs authority cadres in more than 80 countries to contribute to simplifying customs procedures. This procedure will contribute to developing customs departments and improving their performance, which in turn achieves effective management as well as achieving financial sustainability and diversifying the economy according to principles of integrity, transparency and anti-corruption," he said.

And he indicated that "this system will work on documenting customs information and exchanging it between countries and combating customs smuggling, in addition to unifying documents and data between state institutions."

He explained, "The Ministry of Finance seeks to achieve the goals of the White Paper by initiating a radical reform program to address the budget deficit to provide the time and financial spaces for implementing reform plans to put the economy and budget on a sustainable path after which Iraq can decide and choose the economic direction once and for all. Thus, immediate reforms and reforms are needed. In the medium term, between 3 to 5 years for its implementation," he said, adding that "the white paper on economic reform enjoys the support of the international community, for its reform process and the advancement of economic reality."
