Mubasher: The Minister of Oil, Ihssan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, stressed today, Sunday, the importance of accelerating the completion of the Karbala oil refinery project, despite the health conditions and challenges facing Iraq and the countries of the world, indicating that an achievement rate of more than 90% has been achieved.

The Minister of Oil said, during his visit to the Karbala refinery, that the refinery represents an important value and addition to the refining sector in Iraq in terms of quality and quality. Because it will contribute to covering more than 90% of the local need for oil derivatives after the completion and operation of a number of other projects in the refining sector that the ministry is implementing in this context in addition to this project, according to a statement by the ministry.

Ismail added that he instructed the refinery management to expedite the completion of the technical measures required to supply the governorate's electric power system with a generating capacity of 200 megawatts this summer.

Ismail revealed the completion of the production units of the refinery, which includes 35 operating and service units, including 4 gasoline production units, and includes a thermal cracking unit with auxiliary factor (FCC) and a poly-naphtha unit with octane number (95) and (90) in addition to the implementation of the construction of 44 tanks.

For his part, the Undersecretary for Liquidation Affairs, Hamid Yunus, said that the Minister of Oil stressed the necessity of setting a timetable for the training and qualification program for the national effort, which will manage the production and technical units by taking advantage of the experience of international companies, whether consulting or operating the project.

Yunus stressed the importance of this in raising the technical level of workers in the refining sector, expressing his hope that the trial operations of the refinery will start in the first quarter of 2022 gradually according to a timetable.

For his part, the spokesman for the Ministry of Oil, Assem Jihad, said that the Karbala refinery project is a qualitative leap in the refining sector and manufacturing industries in Iraq in terms of the technical integration of the project, as well as the advanced facilities and technology that have been approved and implemented in this project.
