Baghdad / NINA / The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim Al-Khafaji, discussed today, Thursday, with Ramzi Numan, Special Representative of the World Bank Mission in Iraq, the mechanism for implementing support to the agricultural sector.

Al-Khafaji explained during the meeting that: The Ministry is continuing to develop the agricultural sector according to the scientific basis as well as cooperation and coordination with international organizations, including the FAO, the World Bank and the European Union, and there is cooperation that has occurred regarding the rehabilitation of three governorates in the south of the country, which are Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar, pointing out that the ministry has achieved a breakthrough Quality despite the Corona pandemic, by achieving self-sufficiency in strategic crops, and operating 6000 poultry projects that were previously suspended from work, and the need now arises to establish veterinary clinics, grain storage silos, and advanced irrigation technologies. For his part, the representative of the World Bank expressed his readiness to discuss any support regarding agricultural projects, especially those that lead to improving the standard of living, improving investment opportunities and supporting the Iraqi local private sector, as well as projects supporting agricultural work, as well as working to rehabilitate provinces liberated from terrorism.

While it was agreed to hold other dialogue meetings or a discussion seminar, in the presence of representatives from both sides, to lay down practical foundations for implementing joint cooperation steps, as well as discussing the works of the White Paper through the Ministry of Finance.
