Iraqi President [url=https://www.alayam.com/in-the-news/104329925/%D8%A8%D8%B1%D9%87%D9%85 %D8%B5%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AD.html]Barham Salih[/url] affirmed today, Monday, that the policy of openness adopted by Iraq to its regional and international surroundings aims to build balanced relations in support of efforts to reduce tensions and crises.
President Saleh said, during his meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister [url=https://www.alayam.com/in-the-news/3499102123/%D9%85%D8%AD%D9%85%D8%AF %D8%AC%D9%88%D8%A7%D8%AF %D8%B8%D8%B1%D9%8A%D9%81.html]Muhammad Javad Zarif[/url] in Baghdad today, that “Iraq that is capable, independent and sovereign represents a common interest for the whole region, and is a fundamental factor in enhancing its stability and anchored in a system of work based on issues of common security, economy, environmental protection and mutual development opportunities that accrue. In the interest of all the countries and peoples of the region.
He stressed that «the countries of the region face many challenges, and joint work, coordination and commitment to dialogue should be made to overcome the differences and imbalances that surround them, and to cooperate to end conflicts and conflicts and face the existing economic and health challenges, within the framework of mutual respect, common interests and state sovereignty.
In turn, the Iranian minister conveyed the greetings of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to President Barham Salih, his condolences on the tragedy of the Ibn Al-Khatib Hospital fire, and his wishes for security and peace to the Iraqi people.
Minister Zarif reiterated Iran 's commitment to support the stability and sovereignty of Iraq, and its aspiration to enhance the distinguished relations between the two countries.
According to a statement by the Iraqi presidency, during the meeting, bilateral relations between the two neighboring countries were discussed, and the importance of activating the agreements concluded in various fields was emphasized.
And Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein revealed today that Iraq has begun to play a pivotal role in foreign relations and build balanced relations with everyone on the basis of common interests.
Hussein said, in a press conference with his Iranian counterpart, that "the region today holds the word for achieving security and stability, and that our dialogues with Iran have reached important limits."
The Iraqi minister welcomed the results of the Iranian-American dialogue in Vienna, saying, "We are pleased with the progress the negotiations have reached."
He added that "our economic relations are advanced and we must solve the problems they face and we are working to develop them," revealing that the meeting touched on the Gulf-Iranian relations and the Iraqi role in this direction was evaluated, as well as the developments of the US-Iranian dialogue.
In turn, the Iranian foreign minister said: “We have had good negotiations with the Iraqi foreign minister, and we welcome the Iraqi role in the region and we are working to strengthen the role of Iraq in achieving security and stability in the region.”
Minister Zarif added: “We have to build our relations on the principle of good neighborliness and non-interference in internal affairs,” stressing that “today's meeting was good, and we must establish a dialogue according to the principle of mutual respect.”
Zarif said, "Iranian-Iraqi relations are strong and the region needs them, and we are looking forward to developing economic relations."
He pointed out that there was talk about the nuclear negotiations between Iran and the four plus one countries with an American presence, saying: “We wish the American administration’s commitment, and we are ready to fulfill our obligations.”
Minister Zarif had arrived earlier today in Baghdad to discuss with Iraqi officials bilateral relations and regional developments.
