The Iraqi President calls for coordination with the United Nations on the upcoming elections

Iraqi President Barham Salih called today, Monday, to the necessity of effective and serious work and coordination between the United Nations and the Iraqi Electoral Commission to secure international oversight and ensure the integrity of the electoral process in the early parliamentary general elections in Iraq, which will contribute to its success.
The Iraqi President also called in a phone call with the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to ensure wide participation in the upcoming parliamentary elections and the expression of the free will of the voters in a way that guarantees the sovereignty and respect for the independent decision of the Iraqis, according to a statement by the Iraqi presidency.
Guterres welcomed the positive developments in Iraq and affirmed the United Nations' support for the efforts of the Iraqi authorities to enhance security and stability, consolidate its sovereignty, and help Iraq face the challenges facing the country in combating terrorism, and reducing the effects of the Corona pandemic.
According to the statement, they discussed the political and security developments in Iraq and the necessity to consolidate stability and strengthen the efforts of the rule of law, and to emphasize the importance of easing tensions in the region and overcoming crises through dialogue, and the need to coordinate efforts and work to find joint dialogues to stabilize the pillars of regional stability, and that the stability and sovereignty of Iraq is considered an anchor. And a forum for the security of the whole region and the interests of its people.
They also discussed the conduct of the parliamentary elections scheduled to take place in Iraq next October in the country.
