The Iraqi Private Banks Association organized, on Wednesday, in cooperation with the World Bank Group, the Federation of Iraqi Chambers of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Erbil, a symposium on "Economic Benefits of Employing Women in the Private Sector - Models of Local, Regional and International Experiences."

During the symposium, 3 discussion sessions were held on various topics, including "a feasibility study and technical knowledge about flexible work" and "a feasibility study on companies' application of family-friendly policies" as well as a "economic feasibility study for women working in non-traditional jobs."

The head of the Iraqi Private Banks Association said on the sidelines of his participation in the symposium, that “women are the basis of any change in society. Therefore, it was necessary to qualify them by eliminating their alphabetical illiteracy and then protecting their functional protection by continuously training them professionally, and for women to take their role in the process of economic development, technically” And scientifically. "

He pointed out that "in general, the contribution of women to economic activity and the Iraqi workforce is still low compared to males and this is due to many economic, educational, social and religious reasons."

On the sidelines of his participation in the symposium, Al-Handal suggested a number of solutions, most notably: "Providing a suitable work environment for the work of women in the private sector, including guarantees and pensions, by giving attention to the establishment of pension funds for the private sector with direct support from the government."

Also, "developing the banking system and providing easy loans to women to enable them to establish their own projects, expand credit opportunities and facilities, and increase loan amounts within the framework of a national plan to encourage women’s initiatives and establish private banks for women."

The head of the Iraqi Private Banking Association also suggested: "Expanding training and empowerment programs for women in various specializations and income-generating areas, consistent with the needs and developments of the national economy."
