The Financial Committee describes the statements of one of its members as "irresponsible."
Economy News - Baghdad
The Finance Committee in the House of Representatives expressed, on Wednesday, its rejection of the "irresponsible and contrary to reality and truth" statements made by Representative Abdel Hadi Al-Saadawi.
The committee said in a statement reviewed by "Al-Eqtisad News" that "all the laws that are presented to the Finance Committee, the last of which is the 2021 Budget Law, go through a series of extensive discussions under the dome of the Council." Transparency in the proposals among the members and listen to the opinions of all the members of the committee, and a decision is made within it on all the items. "
She added, "The proposals put forward are taken by the consensus of the committee, and in the event that there are different opinions, the principle of voting among the members is adopted according to the internal system and the result of the vote, which is always more than 20 members out of the committee's 23 members, is approved, and everything that results from the work of the committee is presented to the members." The House of Representatives and the final decision is issued by the House and not by the Committee.
And she continued, "We were hoping that MP Abd al-Hadi al-Saadawi would not reduce the efforts made in the Finance Committee to exercise the legislative and oversight role, and that he would not adopt the policy of imposing wills on his other colleagues, which we stress rejecting and not yielding to it."
The committee stressed "its concern for the interests of all people in all their segments, away from the auctions that some try to use to divert things from their course and distort the facts for political purposes and electoral slogans that we are working hard to distance themselves from and keep the committee away from this pitfall that does not achieve the goals and does not meet the aspirations of the citizens."
In turn, the head of the committee, Haitham al-Jubouri, said that the issue of “deducting the salaries of employees to go into the pockets of contractors” is “a lie made by one of them to offend the Finance Committee after we refused to introduce an illegal and corrupt material in the draft General Budget Law for the year 2021.”
He explained, "We were not surprised by that fabrication because it was theirs. Rather, it surprised us who believed this naive lie, and unfortunately some of them are elites."
He added, "The rights of the private sector and its workers are an ethical and legal responsibility to ensure the progress of the reconstruction process and employ thousands of people who do not have a job in the state."
