Iraq will benefit from reconciliation, as it will open the way for the Iraqi state to return to its unified Gulf region

Baghdad - The Iraqi Foreign Ministry welcomed Friday the return of Saudi-Qatari relations and the achievement of Gulf reconciliation.

"We congratulate the Gulf Cooperation Council for the success of the summit meeting, and we welcome the return to normal relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar," Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said in a press statement today.

He added, "We highly value the efforts and endeavors of the State of Kuwait in this regard, which have led to a comprehensive reconciliation between the two sides."

And Iraq will benefit from the Gulf reconciliation, which will open the way more for the Iraqi state to return to its Gulf and Arab surroundings after a long period of Iranian hegemony that brought the country to a crisis.

The Iraqi government has been seeking for some time to take decisions that reduce the impact of Iranian interference, and it is relying on the unified Gulf and Arab incubator to help it face the exacerbating Iranian threat.

Observers believe that every step that leads to calm and stability in the Gulf region will benefit Iraq, which has turned over the years into an arena for international and regional conflict and was harmed by the tense situation in the region.

On Tuesday, Saudi Arabia announced the restoration of full relations between the boycotting countries and Qatar after a Gulf summit in Al-Ula.

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt severed relations with Qatar, accusing it of being close to Iran and supporting extremist Islamic groups, which Doha denied.

On Thursday, the UAE confirmed that the page of the dispute with Qatar will be closed, but it said that the next stage requires building confidence, noting that trade exchange and transport between the two countries will soon return under the "Al-Ula Agreement" signed by the Gulf states on Tuesday at the summit hosted by Saudi Arabia.

Observers believe that the Gulf consensus is the biggest defeat for the Iranian project in the region, as Tehran exploited the Qatari crisis in an attempt to extend its hegemony through the Doha Gate, a matter that would double Iran's isolation.

Qatar pays exorbitant fees to Iran annually in exchange for using its airspace after the boycott in 2017, which represented significant income for Tehran, and it seems that due to reconciliation, these funds will stop after the boycotting countries opened their airspace to Qatari aircraft, which will further deepen the economic crisis for the government, which suffers from the repercussions of sanctions.

(Baghdad: Al Furat News) The leader of the Sadrist movement, Sayyid Muqtada al-Sadr, expressed his hope today, Friday, that the restoration of relations between Saudi Arabia and Qatar will be the beginning of extricating Iraq from "sectarian conflicts" and ending interference in its affairs.

Al-Sadr said in a tweet on his Twitter account: "We hope that the restoration of relations between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Qatar will be of benefit to the two countries and the region in general and Iraq in particular, and that this will be the beginning of bringing Iraq out of sectarian conflicts and banishing interference in Iraqi affairs."

Al-Sadr expressed his hope that all would cooperate together in order to keep "occupation, terrorism and normalization away from all Arab and Islamic countries."

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, welcomed today the return of relations between Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar to its normal framework.

Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan announced during a press conference following the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which opened on Tuesday in the Saudi city of Al-Ula, with the participation of the Emir of the State of Qatar, the return of full relations between the boycotting countries and Qatar, including flights.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut ties with Qatar in 2017, accusing it of supporting terrorism.

The four countries had taken measures to boycott Qatar, including closing its airspace to Qatari planes, preventing commercial dealings with the emirate and stopping Qatari entry into its lands, which caused the separation of family members of mixed nationalities from each other.

Saudi Arabia and the UAE reopened all their ports (air, land and sea) with Qatar, in accordance with the agreement.
