Today, Saturday, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, Representative Jamal Al-Muhammadawi, said that 333 persons accused of corruption in the electricity file have been referred to trial, including 20 employees with the rank of minister.
The transfer site "Alsumaria News", for Muhammadawi as saying that " the suspects transferred a list of more than 20 personal rank of minister has referred to the court."
He added that "20 accused persons with the rank of minister out of 333 were referred to the court in absentia. As for those who have the rank of director general, they were referred in absentia to the courts, the number of which are 27 of those accused of criminal cases of the Ministry of Electricity."
He explained that "the other group that is less than a general manager, their number reached more than 286, and they were referred to the courts in absentia, while 72 were guaranteed, including two ministers, four with the position of general manager, and 66 of lower job degrees."
He emphasized that "the convictions included only 4 ministers and 7 general directors out of 198 accused of cases related to corruption files of the Ministry of Electricity ."
For years, Iraq has been suffering from a shortage of electric power, which has led to an increase in the hours of cutting, which increase in the summer season, and led to the citizen’s reliance on private stations to compensate for the shortage, and the government also depends on purchasing electric power from Iran to supply some provinces with electricity, especially the southern provinces.
