{Baghdad: Al Furat News} The Parliamentary Finance Committee described the fiscal budget for 2021 as "very large and huge."

Committee member Shirwan Mirza said in a press statement, "The budget is estimated at more than 160 trillion dinars, and these funds are huge and very large," stressing that "the parliament will amend the budget and transfer the sums contained in it."

He pointed out that "the House of Representatives has the authority to reduce and transfer in the chapters of the budget, and the Finance Committee will meet with the relevant government agencies and discuss the allocations included in the budget and ways to reduce it."

And that "discussion of the draft budget law will begin after the New Year holidays."

The Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, announced yesterday that the current legislative term will be extended for a period of one month, in order to complete many important legislations for the coming period, including the draft Federal Budget Law for the fiscal year 2021, which reached the House of Representatives.

His deputy, Bashir Al-Haddad, confirmed that "the legislative procedures to complete the federal budget law may take 20-30 days, and that the parliament will begin the first reading of the bill early next January."

"Serious and intense discussions will take place towards reducing unnecessary expenditures in the budget law, and reducing the deficit ratio for the benefit of the middle classes, the poor and those with low incomes," he added.
