What are the advantages of opening the Arar port for trade between Saudi Arabia and Iraq? 900x450_uploads,2020,11,18,6f3896aea4

82% of the kingdom's goods pass to Mesopotamia via neighboring countries It shortens the distance and time .. What are the advantages of opening the Arar port for trade between Saudi Arabia and Iraq?

The Arar border port between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, which was restarted today (Wednesday), is gaining after being closed for nearly 30 years; Great importance for the two countries; As the only port currently opened along the common border of more than 830 kilometers, in addition to its strategic geographic location between Saudi and Iraqi cities; The port is only 600 kilometers from the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, while it is 97 kilometers from the Iraqi city of Al-Nukhayb, which is parallel to the Saudi city of Arar, which is only 50 kilometers from the port, and the port is located within its administrative scope and to the north of it.

Since the crossing was closed in 1990, its use has been limited to the passage of Iraqi pilgrims, which is reflected in the trade movement between the two countries Saudi goods and products used to enter Iraq through Kuwait or Jordan, despite the good demand and reputation among Iraqis, and the closure of the port affected the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, which, according to the Saudi General Authority for Statistics in 2019, reached about $ 1.2 billion. Up from one billion dollars recorded in 2018, and 400 million dollars recorded in 2017, and as it can be noted, there is a gradual improvement in the value of the volume of trade exchange whose balance tends to favor Saudi Arabia, which is currently the second largest Arab country exporting to Iraq after the UAE , but it does not express the importance of relations. Between the two countries.

And if the previous data clarifies the reality of the commercial exchange movement between the Kingdom and Iraq, then the reopening of the Arar port will open up a wider area for it, as for the movement of goods, the port will facilitate Iraq's import of Saudi goods and products, and will shorten the distance between the Saudi industrial cities and the Iraqi markets, and after it was 82 percent of The volume of Saudi exports to Iraq through neighboring countries, goods will enter directly; This will reflect positively on the economic movement in Iraq, and will shorten the time it used to pass through Kuwait or Jordan, and it will also reduce the cost of transportation from Saudi Arabia to Iraqi cities.

As for the movement of travelers, the port will facilitate the movement of pilgrims and Umrah performers, not only Iraqis, but also Turks and citizens of eastern European countries, and the countries neighboring Iraq. Which will be reflected positively on Iraq, through which the pilgrims and Umrah performers will pass through before their arrival to the port to go to Makkah and Madinah, and the port will also contribute to the revitalization of Iraqi cities and governorates located on the roads leading to it, and will provide new job opportunities for youth, as is the case in the Kingdom, which will lead to development The border areas between the two countries, and there is no doubt that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries will increase as a result of the movement resulting from the re-operation of the port, especially with the diversity of activities that it will allow for the development of economic relations between the two countries.

What are the advantages of opening the Arar port for trade between Saudi Arabia and Iraq? 1120201819513976475734

Iraqi and Saudi activists and experts on social media welcomed the reopening of the Arar crossing between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, which has been closed for 29 years, and considered it Iraq's return to the Arab embrace and the beginning of getting rid of Iranian influence in the country.

The opening of that important border crossing between the two countries came based on the results of the work of the Saudi-Iraqi Coordination Council in its fourth session, which was approved by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin and Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi.

For his part, the spokesperson for the Border Ports Authority, Alaeddin Al-Qaisi, said, "The Arar border crossing was officially opened today with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for trade exchange between the two brotherly countries."

Deputy Dhafer Al-Ani said, in a tweet on his account on Twitter, that "the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are launching the Arar port by sending 600 trucks loaded with medical and humanitarian aid to their brothers in Iraq to confront the Corona pandemic ... Thank you brothers and our brothers have continued through the ordeals."

Political analyst Dr. Salim Al-Dulaimi added, in a tweet on his account on Twitter, "The Arar border crossing this morning ... Saudi Arabia rehabilitated it at its expense .."

And he continued: “The people of black flags, sick hearts and empty minds did not spend a single dirham in it,” referring to the pro-Iranian Iraqi authorities, which did not spend anything on the Arar crossing, which is sponsored by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Representative Ahmad al-Jubouri, in a tweet on his account via the micro-blogging site "Twitter," stated that the Arar border crossing between Iraq and Saudi Arabia was officially opened . After a 29-year closure.

He added, "Adam is the Iraqi brotherhood. We ask God to perpetuate brotherhood and harmony between Arab brothers."

The economic expert, Nabil Al-Marsoumi, promised the benefits of reopening the Arar crossing, saying: It is now possible to cross goods from both sides, in addition to the routine passage of civilian travelers to both countries, which will contribute to a great economic recovery.

Al-Marsoumi added, among the benefits, that the "Arar" crossing between Saudi Arabia and Iraq has two roads linking it to the Syrian border, which raises trade exchange between Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Syria.

While the strategic expert Majid al-Qaisi ruled out that there is a relationship between the opening of the crossings with Saudi Arabia and the Arab neighboring countries and the closure of unofficial crossings with Iran.

He pointed out that the issue of opening the crossings with Saudi Arabia is not new, but it was raised during the government of Haider al-Abadi and Adel Abdul Mahdi, but it was not activated.

He added that: The announcement of the opening of the Arar crossing for trade between Iraq and Saudi Arabia is not the decision of the Al-Kazemi government, as the openness to the Arab neighborhood is very necessary to secure the Arab depth, so the Arabs must take more effective and bold steps that are commensurate with the next stage.

While the economic researcher Abdul Rahman Al-Mashhadani said, with regard to Iraq, opening that crossing will facilitate the process of importing Saudi products, as it will reduce costs and time after these products were previously imported via Jordan and Kuwait.

Al-Mashhadani indicated that this will help Iraqi pilgrims and Umrah performers to enter Saudi Arabia smoothly and easily, noting that the number of pilgrims reaches more than 50 pilgrims, while the number of Umrah performers is more than half a million, which will bring economic benefits to the two countries.

Al-Mashhadani noted that the international road to the crossing will flourish with many logistical services such as gas stations, restaurants, rest houses and health centers, which will contribute to creating many job opportunities for Iraqi youth.

Al-Mashhadani pointed out that in the future this road may turn into a vital economic artery linking the sea ports in Saudi Arabia to reach Syria and Turkey, which means supplying the Iraqi economy with large sums due to "transit fees" that will cross towards Syria and Turkey from Saudi Arabia and vice versa.

For his part, the Saudi activist, Sattam Al-Harithi, welcomed the reopening of the "Arar" crossing between Saudi Arabia and Iraq, saying through a tweet on his Twitter account, "Welcome to our people in Iraq.

For his part, the Saudi military expert, Abdullah Ghanem Al-Qahtani, praised the reopening of the Arar crossing between Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

He said in a tweet on his Twitter account, "a historic day when the Arar port between Saudi Arabia and Iraq was reopened , after a 30-year closure."

He added, "Condolences to the people of Iran in the Arab region, especially the militia leaders in Iraq , Yemen, Lebanon and Syria." He explained, "The condolences are extended to the Brotherhood party and the rest of the enemies and hypocrites .. Iran is increasing the hatred of Iraqis towards it and even its Arab servants."
