Today, Thursday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi invited his Kuwaiti counterpart, Sabah Al-Khaled, to visit Baghdad.
This came in a letter sent by Al-Kazemi to the Kuwaiti Prime Minister delivered to him by the Iraqi ambassador to Kuwait, Manhal Al-Safi, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).
A statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said that Al-Safi discussed during his meeting with the Kuwaiti Prime Minister "the bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to upgrade them to meet the aspirations of the two brotherly peoples."
The statement indicated that Al-Safi "conveyed the greetings of the Iraqi leadership and its keenness to invest in brotherly relations for the benefit of the two countries."
The statement added that the Kuwaiti Prime Minister "praised the depth of the relationship that binds the two brotherly countries, and the need to work to promote it to wider ranges, and for concerted efforts between the two countries to serve common interests."
Al-Khaled welcomed Al-Kazemi's invitation to visit Iraq, and promised to fulfill it as soon as possible, according to the same source.
Kuwait is one of the biggest supporters of Iraq, and in February 2019 the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development signed a grant agreement worth 25 million Kuwaiti dinars ($ 85 million) with the Fund for Reconstruction of Areas Affected by Terrorist Operations in Iraqi Cities.
In June of last year, the late Emir of Kuwait , Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, visited the capital, Baghdad, on an official visit to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries, and the most prominent issues and developments in the regional arena.
This was the second visit by the late Emir of the country to Iraq during his assumption of the reins of power (January 29, 2006 - September 29, 2020). On March 29, 2012, he headed the Kuwaiti delegation to the Arab summit meeting that was held in Baghdad at the time. .
