Iraqi President Barham Salih ratified the new election law, a week after the House of Representatives voted on it.
A statement by the Iraqi presidency said today that Saleh approved the election law after the completion of its paragraphs that were the subject of disagreement between the political forces in Parliament.
These differences, especially over the article on the distribution of electoral districts, led to the postponement of the vote on the election law more than once.
In another Iraqi context, the Iraqi Minister of Interior, Othman Al-Ghanmi, discussed with a delegation from the Iranian Ministry of Defense a number of issues of common interest, most notably the strengthening of cooperation in the security fields.
The Iraqi Ministry of Interior stated, in a statement today, that the meeting between Al-Ghanimi and the Iranian delegation headed by Major General Qasim Taqi, First Deputy Minister of Defense of Iran, "discussed many issues of mutual interest," and stressed in particular the "importance of developing and strengthening aspects related to security issues and combating Terrorism and crime in all its forms and exchange of experiences between the two sides.
