Planning signs a memorandum of understanding with Habitat on providing support to the poor in finding suitable housing for them and rehabilitating informal settlements

Iraq and the United Nations Human Settlements Program (Habitat) signed a memorandum of understanding on providing support to the poor in finding suitable housing for them and rehabilitating informal settlements, and it was signed on the Iraqi side and the Undersecretary for Planning for Technical Affairs, Dr. Maher Hammad Johan, and the program’s representative in Iraq, Mr. Wael Al-Ashhab.

The Undersecretary for Planning said that the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (Habitat) has been hindered: it aims to support the efforts of the Ministry of Planning in developing and implementing methods to support access to adequate housing for the poor and people living in informal settlements.

Johan added that the memorandum also aims to build the capabilities of the Ministry of Planning within the framework of the national program for the organization and rehabilitation of informal settlements. It is worth noting that the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry "sets the general plans and strategies for reconstruction and undertakes the tasks of supervision, follow-up and implementation in coordination with the ministerial and national sectors and with international support organizations and agencies."
