The Minister of Agriculture, Muhammad Karim, revealed that he had received requests from the countries of Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Turkey to import barley from Iraq, indicating that the Corona crisis would make the Gulf countries a market for Iraqi agricultural crops.
Karim said in a press interview: "The countries of Ukraine, Saudi Arabia and Turkey have submitted requests to import barley from Iraq," noting that "there is an urgent need for barley by these countries."
He added that "there are 900 thousand tons of barley ready for export," noting at the same time, "to begin exporting thousands of tons of dates outside Iraq." On the other hand, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed, yesterday, Tuesday, that achieving sufficiency in a number of agricultural crops provided 3% of the national income, indicating that the current agricultural plan aims to increase income to 18% during the next year.
And the Minister of Agriculture stated that "3000 tons of tomatoes and eggplant were exported to the Gulf countries," indicating that the Gulf region's demand for Iraqi agricultural crops will increase in light of the Corona pandemic.
The spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Hamid Al-Nayef, said in a press statement: “The Ministry of Agriculture has passed good stages in the field of agriculture and animal production, as it was self-sufficiency and an increase in production and then it was exported to various countries of the year, and the Ministry supported the national income for this year by 3 percent % ”.
Al-Nayef added that "the agricultural plan for the next year aims to support the national income by 18%." He explained that "the plan has provided thousands of job opportunities in the agricultural field, in addition to that we will increase the number of agricultural crops, including vegetables and fruits, for the purpose of self-sufficiency, in addition to exporting the surplus abroad."
