Today, Tuesday, the Iraqi Minister of Planning Khaled Battal announced the postponement of the census due to measures to prevent Corona virus and the financial crisis that the country is going through.
He said in a press statement, "Everyone realizes the importance of implementing the general population census, which is one of the basic requirements in our current circumstance, as it will provide a comprehensive and complete database on the realities of the people's living, educational, health and environmental life."
"The importance of access to real data to achieve social justice, eliminate administrative and financial corruption, correct the country's economic path and improve the lives of its members and future generations," Battal stressed.
It was decided that Iraq would conduct a census in the coming months, as it had not conducted a comprehensive census since 1987, and the census that took place in 1997 did not include the Kurdistan region of Iraq.
