Mubasher: The Parliamentary Integrity Committee in Iraq confirmed that it does not have statistics on the size of smuggled and frozen funds outside Iraq.
It indicated that there are facilities by the United Nations to retrieve it, but it needs government action, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), on Tuesday.
Committee member Alia Nassif said that the United Nations issued a decision that could take possession of the frozen funds, without referring to legal procedures, meaning that there are facilities that need action by the Iraqi government.
She emphasized that "the committee addressed the Recovery Directorate and the Fund, and it was found that there is no cooperation with the Fund in order to return frozen, stolen or other funds."
And she stressed "the necessity to initiate a round to force the ministries to cooperate with the Recovery Fund and the Recovery Directorate at the Integrity Commission, in order to return the stolen money to the Iraqi people."
Yesterday, Monday, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hassan Al-Kaabi called on the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance to verify all Iraqi properties and farms located in the countries of the world.
A document published by the Information Office of Al-Kaabi, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that "there is information indicating that Iraq has various farms and properties in some countries of the world," indicating that "the two ministries can obtain accurate information on the subject from the Iraqi embassies in those countries."
Al-Kaabi called, according to the document, "the concerned ministries to provide the House of Representatives with all the data available to them and to indicate whether the information is correct or not."
