On Thursday, the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the launch of an inspection campaign for smuggled eggs and chickens in the local markets, while the government is still unable to control the outlets and prevent the entry of items prohibited from import.

The official spokesman of the Ministry, Hamid Al-Nayef, said, in a statement, that Al-Iktissad News received a copy of it, that “Certain parties put Iraqi brands on smuggled chickens in order to enter the market as a local product, in addition to placing eggs in an Iraqi carton as an Iraqi product in When these materials are smuggled and not subject to laboratory examination, which may cause health damage to the citizen on one side, and on the local product on the other hand.

He stressed that "the ministry, in cooperation with the security authorities and the Department of Combating Organized Crime, will inspect all food markets, malls and stores in order to investigate and seize these materials and refer their promoters and importers to the judiciary, in addition to signing a fundamentalist report to destroy them."

Al-Nayef said, "The reasons for the entry of smuggled materials are due to the lack of control over the illegal crossings and outlets," calling on the "owners of stores and mawalities not to buy these smuggled materials because that will expose them to legal accountability."

And he called on the security services and border crossings to "tighten procedures as well as put a hand on illegal crossings in order to protect the local product and support the national economy."
