The Minister of Planning, Prof. Dr. Khaled Battal Al-Najm, chaired today, Thursday, the first meeting of the Economic, Trade, Investment, Development and Relief Committee emanating from the Iraqi-Saudi Coordination Council.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister reviewed the positive results of the Iraqi delegation’s visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the period from 19-20 July, indicating that the Saudi side has a great desire to open broad horizons of cooperation with Iraq, in various commercial, investment, industrial and agricultural fields. And service, pointing out that Iraq welcomes this positive and constructive cooperation, and its willingness to provide the best conditions for its success, pointing out the importance and role of the private sector in the two brotherly countries, in achieving more joint investment, noting that the visit of the Iraqi delegation to Riyadh resulted in the signing of a number of Memoranda of understanding, in the areas of standardization and quality control, and financing a group of projects from the Saudi soft loan to Iraq, amounting to one billion dollars.
Dr. Al-Najm pointed out that there are a number of agreements that will be signed between the two countries, after their approval by the House of Representatives, and that the Iraqi side will present a set of proposals to the Saudi side, which include the possibility of financing the stalled projects, including the completion of residential complexes and service projects. In the sectors of health, education, water and sewage.
In addition, during the meeting, which was attended by the heads of the National Investment Authority, the undersecretaries of the ministries of commerce, housing and reconstruction, and the head of the Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control, a number of issues on the agenda were discussed, among them work to activate the agreements and memoranda of understanding agreed between the two sides. Especially those related to encouraging and protecting the national product, as well as establishing a center for Saudi companies in Iraq, as well as reviewing the government's relief and humanitarian efforts and restoring stability to the displaced.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Saudi foreign minister, expressed his happiness to visit Iraq, which he arrived yesterday, and the growth of bilateral relations steadily. He said on Twitter, "I was delighted to visit Iraq, this country with which we have deep ties that have taken root solid history and an ambitious future."
The minister explained that he discussed with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi the bilateral relations "which are growing steadily and common challenges, as I conveyed to him the greetings of the Kingdom's leadership and its good wishes to the brotherly Iraqi people."
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, a spokesman for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, said that the Saudi Foreign Minister had met his counterpart, Dr. Fuad Hussein. Al-Sahaf added, in exclusive statements to Asharq Al-Awsat, by saying, "The two sides discussed many issues, foremost of which are bilateral relations and their distinction at all levels, and activating the memoranda of understanding concluded during previous governments and pushing for their content and speed to achieve them in a manner consistent with the interests of the two neighboring brotherly peoples."
He continued, "Deepening economic and investment relations between the two countries on all sides, including those related to agricultural and petrochemical aspects, and supplying Iraq with energy were discussed, as the two sides discussed linking energy with the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council and urgently pushing this file to be realistic for what serves Iraq."
The two sides stressed - according to Dr. Ahmed Al-Sahhaf - the importance of enhancing security and stability in the region, and dedicating the role and support of Iraq at all levels. He added, "The two sides also discussed the outcomes of the Iraqi prime minister's visit to Washington and what was nominated for it, and the outcomes of the tripartite summit meeting held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan."

With regard to official holidays, he pointed out that “the ministry held an expanded meeting with a group of experts, in addition to the presence of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning and representatives of the Ministry of Education to study the official holidays, as it is not related only to the issue of determining a specific holiday or occasion, but rather to study its educational and economic effects.
