Communications Minister Arkan Shihab revealed, on Wednesday, that there are ongoing meetings with companies to change the new Internet price early next month.

Shihab said in a statement reported by the official "INA" news agency and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, "The shock operations continue to work until the smuggling of Internet capacity is eliminated, stressing that the ministry has marketed Internet capacity in Nineveh, worth two billion per month."

He added that "there is a tendency to cancel the weaker subscriptions of Internet service subscribers without the citizen charging additional sums."

Shihab pointed out that "the ministry sent a direct invitation to five companies in the world," pointing to "the announcement of the Japanese loan, which has been suspended, despite its completion since 2017."

He continued, "The Japanese loan contains 150,000 landlines + Internet (Fiber), indicating that" the Internet service will see an improvement at the end of this year at 150,000 homes in different areas of the capital, Baghdad.

Shehab stated that "there are continuous meetings with companies to change the new pricing next month."

On Thursday, the Ministry of Communications announced that it had thwarted an Internet smuggling operation in Kirkuk Governorate, with a value of one billion dinars per month.

The media office of the ministry stated in a statement seen by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "a continuation of the shock operations carried out by the Ministry of Communications regarding combating the smuggling of international Internet capacity, under the direct supervision of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Communications and in cooperation with the competent authorities in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, the Ministry's teams managed With the support of the Media and Communications Authority and the Intelligence and National Security Agency, the smuggling of international capacity was controlled for several purposes.

He added, "The targets were set in advance during the intelligence effort of the security forces in Kirkuk Governorate."

"The teams managed to confiscate the technical equipment and devices," pointing out that the engineering staff at the Ministry of Communications began to compensate the capacities that were smuggled into the companies officially contracting with the ministry through the official Kirkuk port, equivalent to (2.6) a period of one billion dinars per month.

The statement affirmed "the Ministry of Communications' determination to finish this file as soon as possible," indicating that it "will spare no effort until the shock operations achieve their goals of preserving the country's sovereignty and reviving the Iraqi economy through the telecommunications sector."
