Ambassador Bakr Fattah Hussein, the Permanent Representative of Iraq to the Provisional Technical Secretariat of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), reiterated Iraq’s support for the entry into force of the treaty as soon as possible.

Emphasizing the firm belief in the importance of finding a binding international instrument to ban nuclear tests and considering it an integral part of the international non-proliferation regime and the international disarmament regime, which confirms Iraq's permanent emphasis on the need for the CTBT to enter into force.

Ambassador Hussein also renewed the invitation of the eight parties in Annex II of the treaty to ratify the treaty; In order for it to enter into force, work towards achieving its universality, and benefit from the treaty’s role in strengthening the nuclear non-proliferation regime.

Expressing the vision of Iraq that confirms the importance of finding a verification system in its three pillars: the international monitoring system, the International Information Center, and on-site inspection.

He called on all states to observe the moratorium on nuclear testing and to continue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to general and complete nuclear disarmament that are irreversible under strict and effective international control.
