The interim Chargé d'Affaires participated in the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations in Geneva, Dr. Abbas Kazem Obaid at the virtual meeting held by the Group of 77 and China at the ambassadorial level.

The meeting revolved around financing for development, the debt challenges of developing countries in the context of the Corona pandemic, listening to the Chairman's briefing on the arrangements for the sixty-seventh session of the Trade and Development Board, and preparatory procedures for the 15th UNCTAD conference that was postponed to 2021; Because of the Corona crisis.

The Chargé d'Affaires made an intervention in which he referred to the preventive and remedial measures taken by the Iraqi government to confront the Corona pandemic, and expressed support for the Secretary-General's call to UNCTAD, and the three proposed steps to confront the crisis and its implications for the economies of developing countries.

Stressing that Iraq, like most countries, was exposed to great financial pressures due to the drop in oil prices, and many sectors were affected by this decline, especially the financial resources that were allocated from the budget to face the pandemic and its consequences.

Usually, Iraq's obligations in the economic and development sectors will be affected, and will also be reflected on other international obligations.
