Japan offers a $ 3.6 million grant to support the housing of the displaced in Iraq

The United Nations Population Fund welcomed an additional contribution of $ 3.6 million from the Government of Japan to support reconstruction and peacebuilding in Iraq by rehabilitating war-damaged homes and building low-cost housing units in Sinjar, Nineveh Governorate.
The United Nations website stated in a report seen by Al-Iqtisad News, “According to the new stage of this project, the United Nations Fund will improve the living conditions in Sinjar through a comprehensive urban recovery approach that includes repairing public spaces and infrastructure, and building low-cost housing units. To accommodate the returnees whose homes were completely destroyed and did not receive any support to rehabilitate or rebuild their homes and employ graduates of vocational training for the rehabilitation and construction activities implemented by the fund, which will contribute to rebuilding their livelihoods. ”
Japanese Ambassador to Iraq Hashimoto Naofumi said, “Japan recently decided to provide a new assistance package to Iraq amounting to US $ 41 million, including this project as assistance to conflict-affected areas in Nineveh Governorate, and with this package, the total Japanese assistance to those affected by The crisis is US $ 540 million since 2014 ”.
"I hope that the assistance provided by the government and people of Japan will be able to rebuild the livelihoods of the affected communities through the rehabilitation of community infrastructure and housing units."
