I bring you much news today.

Allawi is still attempting to get support for his new cabinet. There was much FAKE news about he already having this support in parliament but now we know this was not true. As usual they keep postponing the vote. So this process now is just as in the past. Nothing new! We sit and wait an only hope this new prime minister will perform as promised once parliament gives him full power.

So the new date is now Sunday again for a vote. But don’t hold you breath it may change.

PREPARATIONS FOR A SECOND MEETING BETWEEN ALLAWI AND THE POLITICAL BLOCS TO RESOLVE DIFFERENCES OVER THE CABINET

Iraqi political sources revealed, today, Monday, the preparations made by Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi to hold a second round of negotiations with influential political leaders in Parliament, due to the continuing differences on several points, including some of the blocs reservation to name the military for the ministries of defense and the interior.

ALLAWI IS ON A DATE WITH SUNDAY TO PASS THE GOVERNMENT BOOTH

Member of Parliament and head of the Bayraq Al-Khair bloc, Muhammad Al-Khaldi, confirmed today, Wednesday, that the majority is guaranteed to pass the cabinet of Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi inside the parliament dome.

Al-Khalidi said in a statement, which was followed by the "Independent", that "the date that was scheduled yesterday to pass the government booth was postponed to today and then to tomorrow, now to be kicked out until Sunday again."

The media department of the Council stated, in a statement, that “Al-Haddad met today, in his office in Baghdad, the President of the Turkmen Front, Deputy Arshad Al-Salhi and his accompanying delegation. Political developments and current events on the Iraqi arena and a number of issues and issues of common concern were discussed.”

Member of Parliament Bassem Khashan warned, on Wednesday, against the "explosion" of the Iraqi street, if Parliament voted to grant it confidence to Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi.

Khashan said, in a press statement, that "the Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi, is rejected by the demonstrators, and they are demanding an end to his mandate, and the parliament’s vote to grant him confidence, contrary to the will of the protesters, will increase the intensity of the demonstrations and protests, and there will definitely be an escalation."

PRIME MINISTER-DESIGNATE MOHAMMED TAWFIQ ALLAWI: GETS PUSH BACK FROM KDP AND PUK ON CANDIDATES

SULAIMANI — Head of the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) in the Council of Representatives Salim Shushkay said on Tuesday (February 18) that Prime Minister-designate Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi has rejected demands by the main Kurdish parties regarding nominees for ministerial positions.

He is expected to nominate his proposed cabinet in the coming days.
Over the weekend, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) had sought greater input and approval over the nominations, citing the special constitutional role played by the Kurdistan Region.

“Prime Minister-designate Mohammed Tawfiq Allawi, who is responsible for forming the new cabinet, did not met with the Kurdish parties and rejected all the demands of the KDP and PUK,” Shushkay said.

“The demands of the Kurdish parties were viewed as the same as the other Iraqi parties and the Kurds will be treated the same as other Iraqi nationalities,” he added.

Sairoon alliance lawmaker Salam al-Shamari said on Saturday that all the candidates for the new cabinet will be independent technocrats and will not include anyone who previously held a ministerial position or has a partisan affiliation, so as to meet protesters’ demands.

Since October 1, PROTESTERS HAVE DEMANDED FUNDAMENTAL CHANGES TO GOVERNANCE IN IRAQ, STARTING WITH A NEW GOVERNMENT THAT IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE INFLUENCE OF THE PARTIES, WHICH THEY SEE AS CORRUPT AND UNRESPONSIVE TO THE NEEDS TO THE PEOPLE.
KDP leadership member Khasraw Goran countered those claims and said that, for Kurdish candidates, ALLAWI CANNOT AVOID THE PARTIES AND SELECT SOMEONE WITH NO TIES TO THEM.

“The Kurdistan Region is not an Iraqi governorate that Allawi can just pick a candidate from without referring to us,” Goran said.

(Mnt Goat – Oh yes Allawi can avoid the parties and select someone with no ties to them according to the Iraq constitution. This is also in the new election law to clarify it, which we have been told multiple times as being passed in parliament months ago. It is just waiting for ratification by president Saleh.)

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE UNITED STATES AND IRAQ AND THE CONTINUED COOPERATION TO SUPPORT A PROSPEROUS, STABLE AND DEMOCRATIC IRAQ.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs David Schenker, on Tuesday, visited Baghdad to discuss relations between the United States and Iraq.

A statement on the US embassy in Baghdad said that Schenker, in his meetings with Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, President of the Republic Barham Salih, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Muhammad al-Halbousi, highlighted the importance of the relationship between the United States and Iraq and the continued cooperation to support a prosperous, stable and democratic Iraq.

The statement indicated that Schenker "condemned the ongoing attacks against peaceful demonstrators who exercise their democratic right to freedom of expression, including their demands for political and economic reform."

He called on the Iraqi government to "put an end to these criminal practices and bring the perpetrators to justice."

Shafaq News / On Wednesday, the Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Tawfiq Allawi called on the House of Representatives to hold an extraordinary session next Monday, in order to give confidence to the cabinet.

Allawi said in a televised address to the Iraqis, “Your historic battle for the homeland, for which you have borne great sacrifices, changed the political rules and resulted in the formation of an independent government for the first time in decades without the participation of political parties.”

Allawi called on the House of Representatives to hold an extraordinary session next Monday in order to give confidence to the cabinet formation, warning that “if the pace of the demonstrations recedes, it will return at any time stronger than we have seen.”

He added, “One of the priorities of my government, once it is given confidence, will begin to investigate what happened in the demonstration arenas, and to bring the elements that assaulted the demonstrators to justice, whatever their location,” adding that “we will work to restore the prestige of the state, and to take the necessary measures for early free and fair elections.”

Allawi added, “We will fully present to the Iraqi government the program at the specified times,” NOTING THAT “IF THE MINISTERIAL FORMATION DOES NOT PASS, KNOW THAT THERE ARE STILL PARTIES WORKING FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE CRISIS, QUOTAS, SECTARIANISM AND CORRUPTION.”
