The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Lisbon, Siwan Saber Barzani, met the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Portuguese Communities Committee in the House of Representatives, Mr. Sergio Sosa Pinto, at the headquarters of the Portuguese Parliament in Lisbon.

During the meeting, a number of issues of common concern were discussed, noting the importance of Iraq in relation to the region and the world, because of its political, economic and religious role, calling for the reopening of the Portuguese embassy in Baghdad, because it is an important step to facilitate economic and commercial cooperation as well as facilitating the granting of entry characteristics to both countries, The ambassador also touched on the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, and called for exchanging visits between the two countries to benefit from experiences in various fields related to the parliamentary work.

In turn, Mr. Pinto emphasized the reopening of the Portuguese embassy in Baghdad, which was closed in 2007 due to the security conditions at the time, and because of the economic and financial problems experienced by Portugal, and Mr. Pinto welcomed the exchange of visits with members of the Iraqi parliament to learn about the Portuguese parliamentary experience.
