On the sidelines of his visit to Lausanne, Switzerland, on Wednesday 5/2020, a delegation of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee headed by MP Abbas Alewi, Chairman of the Committee and the members of the Committee held a meeting with the official of relations in the International Olympic Committee Jerome Buffet to discuss strengthening cooperation mechanisms to serve the Iraqi sport.

At the beginning of the meeting held at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Buffet praised the Iraqi parliament’s approval of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee law as a major achievement, and Iraqi officials were asked to legislate to protect the Olympic movement.

For his part, the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee, MP Abbas Alaiwi, expressed his committee’s pleasure in holding the meeting, in addition to the International Olympic Committee’s appreciation of the work of the Parliamentary Committee.

And MP Aliwi indicated that the continuous communication with the International Olympic Committee has resulted in a positive result in the legislation of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, which has been suspended for long periods.

The meeting reviewed some of the problems facing the work of the Iraqi National Olympic and how to help solve it.

For his part, Vice-President of the Youth and Sports Committee, Deputy Diyar Barwari stressed the importance of investing in communication with the International Olympic through placing sports cadres working in the National Olympic Committee in administrative, technical and financial courses, especially in the field of governance, noting that the reception of the International Olympic Committee for Youth and Sports is a special honor of its kind. .

In turn, Representative Arzoo Mahmoud thanked the International Olympic Committee for good hospitality and reception, calling for continuing to cooperate and positively deal with opinions and proposals that can be used in the law of federations and clubs.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Haider Farman, Executive Director of the Asian Olympic Council, Mr. Raad Hammoudi, Chairman of the National Olympic Committee, Mr. Haider Al Jumaili, Secretary General and Mr. Haitham Abdel Hamid.

The delegation of the Youth and Sports Committee is scheduled to hold a meeting with both the President of the International Olympic Committee and Director of International Relations James McCloud.

The International Olympic Committee has sent an official invitation to the Iraqi Council of Representatives to attend the Youth and Sports Committee to its headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, to extend its thanks and appreciation for the efforts of the Parliamentary Committee in approving the National Olympic Law.

During the meeting held at the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in the Swiss city of Lausanne, they discussed the possibilities available to provide assistance to advance the national Olympic movement in Iraq.

The delegation of the Youth and Sports Committee, headed by Representative Abbas Alaiwi, Chairman of the Committee, met on Thursday 6/2020 with the President of the International Olympic Committee, Mr. Thomas Bach, at the headquarters of the Committee in the Swiss city of Lausanne to discuss strengthening relations in all sports fields and lifting the ban entirely from Iraqi stadiums.

And the Iraqi Parliamentary delegation was greeted with a standing ovation by raising the Iraqi flag in front of the International Olympic Committee portal in appreciation of the visit of the Iraqi delegation.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Bach thanked the Iraqi parliament for voting on the law of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, praising the efforts of the Youth and Sports Committee to pass the law and their serious and fruitful cooperation and their insistence on its approval after several years.

The President of the International Olympic Committee praised the law, which he considered one of the best laws in the West Asia region, urging the importance of the government and the national Olympic for the law to develop Iraqi sport, stressing the readiness of the International Olympic to develop training and administrative staff and the introduction of sports talents.

Mr. Bach pointed out that the International Olympic encourages the rapprochement between governments and local Olympic committees without compromising their independence, explaining that for the first time a meeting takes place at this level with a parliamentary delegation, in addition to the presence of the President of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee is a norm, as it is not possible to receive any delegation or Personal no matter what is inside the International Olympic except with the head of the local Olympic Committee.

For his part, the Chairman of the Youth and Sports Committee, MP Abbas Aliwi, on behalf of the delegation, thanked the President of the International Olympic Committee for the warm reception and his personal invitation to the Committee to attend to Lausanne, which indicates the great interest in following up the affairs of the National Olympic Committees, noting that the Youth and Sports Committee in the Iraqi parliament is keen To provide legislation that is in the interest of Olympic sport, as a commitment to the people and the sports public, stressing the importance of providing assistance to lift the ban entirely from Iraqi stadiums.

For his part, Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Deputy Diyar Tayeb Barwari, affirmed that communication with the International Olympic through the legal representative of international relations at the International Olympic Committee Mr. Jerome Bovey was fruitful and positive, which contributed to overcoming many of the obstacles that faced the law while writing its articles, praising the role of Mr. James McCloud, director of relations, for his continuous contact with the committee to pass the Iraqi Olympic Law.

In turn, Representative Arzoo Mahmoud, the committee's rector, referred to the role of the Iraqi parliament in supporting and supporting the committee by passing the law, expressing thanks to the members of the International Olympic Committee, headed by its president, Mr. Bach, and the advanced staff in the International Olympic and their permanent cooperation to serve the Iraqi sport.

Representative Mahmoud urged the International Olympic Committee to provide assistance in setting up training courses to qualify and develop coaches inside Iraq and to use their relations to lift the total ban on Iraqi stadiums.

The head of the delegation of the Youth and Sports Committee presented the shield of the Iraqi parliament to the President of the International Olympic Committee and the shield of the Parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee to Messrs James James MacLoud and Jerome Bovey.

For his part, the President of the International Olympic Committee granted souvenirs to the delegation of the Youth and Sports Committee.
