Baghdad / Al-Akhbariya:
Legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi revealed, on Sunday, the mechanisms for holding early elections in Iraq, indicating that early parliamentary elections can only be held by dissolving parliament.
Al-Tamimi said in a statement to "Al-Akhbaria" that "early parliamentary elections can only be held by dissolving parliament, which can be resolved in two ways. The first is a request from the prime minister and the approval of the President of the Republic and the approval of the absolute majority, i.e. half of the number of parliament plus one and the second at the request of one-third of the members of Parliament and the approval of the majority itself."
He added, "When this happens, the President of the Republic calls for general elections in the country within two months from the date of the solution, and the Cabinet prepares a future and continues to conduct daily business until the early parliamentary elections are held, and the President of the Republic is also considered resigned."
He added, "Now if Muhammad Allawi withdraws before Parliament votes on him, he is not considered resigned, but withdrawn and failed, and the President of the Republic assigns another candidate."
