Finland has reopened its embassy in Baghdad in a move to rebuild bilateral ties and boost trade between the two countries after a 30-year absence.

"His country had suspended diplomatic relations with Iraq with the outbreak of the Gulf War in early 1991," Finnish Ambassador Visa Hakkinen was quoted as saying on Thursday.

He added that the Finnish embassy will begin its work with the help of a diplomatic staff of four people in principle, and will be the embassy headquarters in the same building where the Swedish embassy in the capital, "Baghdad."

The file of resettlement of thousands of Iraqis living illegally in Finland is a thorny between the two countries; where Helsinki had rejected their asylum applications, as had arrived in Finland about 20,000 Iraqi migrants in 2015.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Finland Mithal Al-Sabti with Finnish MP Hussein Al-Taie, Chairman of the Finnish-Iraqi Parliamentary Friendship Committee.
