Kaperoni

[show me when CBI stated free float?]  ...it's not that cut and dry...it's not a question of the CBI saying they're going to float or free float or anything like that...it's what countries do. If you simply look at how countries evolve you will see they don't RV. They go from a fixed exchange rate to a float that is part of the transition because it's necessary to offset that inflationary pressure that's created from the economic and financial influx of investment...Iraq though has a lot more resources than most...they still have to follow the same rules.

"Iraq though has a lot more resources than most...they still have to follow the same rules."

That's right, and one of the rules is 'before you can have a free floating currency you need a diversified economy' like the US, Japan, Canada, GB .... etc. It will be decades before that's the case with Iraq, if ever. As Kap points out, the money supply is far too massive for any substantial RV, and their economy is far too dependent on oil to go to a free float, so where does that leave them? Around 1190:1 I'm afraid.
