Participation of a high-level delegation .. Iraq discusses in Beirut with UNICEF, ESCWA and experts from the University of Oxford, the measurement of the national index of multi-dimensional poverty
Iraq participated with a high-level delegation in the technical workshop to discuss the methodology of measuring the national indicator of multi-dimensional poverty in Iraq, organized in Beirut, Lebanon, United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA) for the period 29-30 August the past .
The delegation included the Iraqi delegation participating in the workshop a number of members of the House of Representatives and officials from the ministries of federal planning and the Kurdistan region, as well as representatives of the relevant ministries and experts from UNICEF and ESCWA and experts from the initiative team at the University of "Exfor".
The two-day workshop witnessed the discussion of the mechanisms of measuring and drawing a national index of multi-dimensional poverty in Iraq.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Planning, Dr. Maher Hammad Johan, gave a speech, the Iraqi delegation, marking the start of the workshop, during which he talked about the plans and programs prepared by the Ministry of Planning to fight poverty and achieve a decent living for the Iraqi citizen, indicating that among these plans, Iraq vision for development Poverty reduction strategy, the five-year development plan 2018-2022, the private sector development strategy, and the reconstruction plan for the liberated areas, explaining that the measurement of poverty is no longer linked to income, as many believe, but to other dimensions, Including health and ales N, education and living conditions and the availability of different services, stressing the importance of linking policies and budgets deprivation index represented as evidenced by a multi-dimensional poverty, achieving social justice.
In a related context, and within the workshop, the members of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Mohammed Shi'a Al-Sudani, Huda Sajjad and Haifa Al-Amin, participated in a special session chaired by Chancellor Dr. Mahdi Al-Alak, during which they discussed priority indicators and fragile groups, calculating the multi-dimensional poverty index, and the importance of adopting this indicator. In plans, policies and distribution of annual financial allocations.
The workshop concluded with a number of important results and recommendations. National Poverty Index. The team will identify dimensions and indicators within each dimension and discuss them with partners. Identifying the aspects and priorities of the support required for the sectors that caused the increase of poverty rates in some sectors according to the Arab methodology of multi-dimensional poverty, are presented to the government for the purpose of guiding the budget policies for the year 2020, based on the priorities of deprivation at the national level and at the provincial level.
The participants also stressed the importance of promoting the multi-dimensional poverty index through a workshop to be organized later, with the participation of members of the Council of Representatives and representatives of Iraqi ministries and universities
