BAGHDAD / RIYADH:

The campaign to close roulette and gambling halls is part of Iraq's international obligations to combat money laundering, Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief Adel Abdul Mahdi said on Friday, revealing recent arrests that led to the discovery of other corruption.

Abdul Mahdi said in a televised interview followed by "news" that the gambling halls, roulette and liquor places "is basically unlicensed and was the purpose of money laundering," noting that the recent campaign against it is "part of the fight against corruption and part of Iraq's obligations with international institutions on money laundering." .

"The arrests that took place in connection with money laundering led to the discovery of other acts of corruption related to human organs and oil smuggling," Mahdi said.

The Prime Minister said in his speech that "the localization of salaries comes within the attempts to tighten the corruption more and more."
