Iran will earn $ 5 billion in revenue from sales of gas and electricity to Iraq this year, Secretary-General of the Iran-Iraq Chamber of Commerce Syed Hamid Hosseini said Tuesday.

Hosseini said in a statement quoted by the agency "SNN" that the Iranian technical and engineering projects that stopped in Iraq because of terrorist activities have resumed.

"Following the expert-level meetings between the Iraqi Ministry of Housing and the Iranian Organization for Small Industries and Industrial Parks (IBO), Iranian projects that were stopped in Iraq due to terrorist operations have been resumed," he said.

On the nature of the projects, Hamid Hosseini explained that "at present, Iranian projects in Iraq will resume, such as sports stadiums, water and sanitation projects, as well as housing projects that have been stopped in Iraq due to the presence of terrorists in the areas that embrace these projects."

Hosseini revealed the organization of the joint Iranian-Iraqi economic forum on July 21 and 22, in Baghdad, in the presence of officials and relevant organizations from both countries.

In mid-June, the United States renewed for the third time the extension of Iraq's 90-day exemption from sanctions imposed on Iran, allowing it to import electricity and gas, which rely heavily on them, especially in the hot summer of the country.
