The International Arab Banking Summit (IABS) of 2019, organized by the Union of Arab Banks annually, will be held in Rome between 25 and 26 of this month, with ministers and governors of central banks, representatives of senior executives from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), bankers and financial decision makers, And the elite of the public and private sectors, Arabs and foreigners, to discuss issues of interest to the Arab and international banking and economic community.
The summit, entitled 'Euro-Arab Mediterranean dialogues for a better economic zone', will focus on the financial and banking aspects of the Mediterranean region.
"Over the past few years, the Mediterranean region has experienced periods of chaos and violence. By tackling policies of intolerance, war, humanitarian crises and displacement, the region has become a center for the tragic challenges faced by Arab, Mediterranean and European countries, challenges that have dire consequences if left unchecked. As a result, the Rome Summit will facilitate discussions between banking and financial leaders, as well as government and public sector officials, will provide an important assessment of Euro-Arab Mediterranean banking relations and identify what is needed in this area to develop public-private initiatives to strengthen these Relations and opening channels of cooperation, trade and bilateral and intra-regional investment. "
The Board of Directors of the Union of Arab Banks unanimously decided to choose Joseph Tarbee, Chairman of the Lebanese Accreditation Group, President of the Association of Banks of Lebanon and President of the International Union of Arab Bankers for the 'Arab Banking Person of 2019' award. .
The Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Banks, Wissam Fattouh, said: "The selection of Dr. Joseph Tarbih for this prestigious award was made during the annual meeting of the Union of Arab Banks held recently. The Board members represented 20 Arab countries. For his continued efforts and wise management '.

INTRODUCTION
The Union of Arab Banks will host its International Arab Banking Summit (IABS) for 2019 in Rome-Italy on June 25-26, 2019. The Summit, which is an annual international platform, gathers Ministers, Governors of Central Banks, senior executives from the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), leading bankers, decision-makers and representatives of public and private sectors from numerous global nations to discuss issues of concern to the international banking community and the wider global economy.
UAB’s IABS Rome 2019, will focus primarily on the Mediterranean finance and banking aspects in the form of “Euro – Arab Mediterranean Dialogues for a better Economic Zone”, taking into consideration that the first edition of the MBD was held during IABS 2018 in Paris under the High Patronage of the President of the French Republic Mr Emmanuel MACRON.
OBJECTIVE & SIGNIFICANCE OF THE SUMMIT
Over the past few years, the Mediterranean region has experienced periods of disarray and violence. From factional politics, to wars, to humanitarian and refugee crises, the region has gradually become the epicentre of the most dramatic policy challenges confronting the EU/Mediterranean and Arab countries. If left unresolved, these challenges may have far-reaching negative repercussions. As a result, Euro - Arab relations are and will continue to be a major source of economic cooperation, foreign investment, trade, and development aid in the Arab region, and have a vital role in promoting societal resilience, as well as human, economic, and financial development.
Along these lines, the Rome Summit will facilitate discussions among banking and financial leaders in addition to government and public sector officials and will present an important assessment of the Euro - Arab Mediterranean economic & banking relations and emphasize the need to launch initiatives between public and private sectors in order to strengthen these relations and open channels of cooperation, trade and bilateral investment.
Amidst recent developments, and in an effort to foster Euro-Arab Mediterranean dialogue, businesses, economic and banking relations, the Summit, through its discussion panels, will focus on formulating various ideas and recommendations on new partnership opportunities. It aims at putting governments, businesses, and financial institutions on the right track towards the inevitability and importance of mutual economic relations to achieve sustainable growth and prosperity.

The number of branches of Arab financial and banking institutions in the world is about 150 branches distributed in 41 countries. According to statistics issued by the Union of Arab Banks on the occasion of the proximity of the Arab-European Banking Summit, the United Kingdom and France topped the list of the largest number of Arab banking branches, where they recorded between 17 to 24 banks, followed by Cyprus, Switzerland and America.
On the 25th and 26th of June, Rome will witness the opening of the largest Arab banking summit of 2019.
Wissam Fattouh, Secretary General of the Union of Arab Banks said that the summit is being organized by the Union of Arab Banks in cooperation with the Association of Italian Banks and the European Banking Commission. - European for a better economic zone ', stressing that it is gaining particular importance in terms of the quality of issues involved, and in terms of participation of international dignitaries.
