Reuters) - Saudi Arabia announced on Sunday it had deposited $ 250 million in the central bank to strengthen its financial position and ease pressure on the Sudanese pound.

The Saudi Ministry of Finance said in a statement that "as announced on 21 April 2019, a joint package of assistance from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to the brothers in Sudan, amounting to three billion US dollars, of which 500 million US dollars , The introduction of the two countries as a deposit in the Central Bank of Sudan to strengthen its financial position, ease the pressure on the Sudanese pound, and to achieve greater stability in the exchange rate, and the disbursement of the remaining amount to meet the urgent needs of the brotherly Sudanese people, including food, medicine and oil derivatives.

"Following the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Ministry of Finance has deposited (937,500,000) nine hundred and thirty-seven million five hundred thousand riyals, equivalent to two hundred and fifty million US dollars, for the Central Bank of Sudan "He said.

"On this occasion, the Minister of Finance Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan said that this deposit is an extension of the Kingdom's support for the brotherly Sudanese people."

He added that "this support will strengthen the financial and economic situation in the sisterly Republic of Sudan, especially the exchange rate of the Sudanese pound, which is reflected positively on the living conditions of Sudanese citizens."
