The "Basel III Standard Methods and Challenges of Implementation", organized by the Institute for Economic Policy in the Arab Monetary Fund in cooperation with the Financial Stability Institute (BIS) of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS), opened at the headquarters of the Fund in Abu Dhabi from 
9 to 11 April 2019. 

Banks play a key role in economic activity. They aim to pool savings, provide loans to investors, and settle payments between different economic entities, thus raising economic growth rates, thereby increasing employment and welfare. Despite the importance of the activity of banks, there are risks that affect the economy negatively. Unrestricted lending and excessive facilities could cause severe financial and economic crises that could hit national economies and extend to the global economy, as in the 2008 global financial crisis. 

The monitoring of banking activities and the establishment of controls to ensure the safety of its activity without tying it and limiting its ability to carry out its various activities is necessary to accelerate economic growth. Therefore, the supervisory authorities in the countries oblige the banks operating in them to comply with international standards, especially the Basel standards, to protect banks from serious risks, which, if they occur, may have significant effects on the economy in those countries and others.
