Ministry of Planning Launches Results of Labor Market Assessment and Skills Analysis Survey in Iraq
The Ministry of Planning launched the results of the Labor Assessment and Skills Analysis Survey carried out by the Central Bureau of Statistics. It included eight governorates, two governorates of Kurdistan Region, within the framework of the technical and vocational education and training reform project and with the support and funding of the European Union and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Minister of Planning Dr. Nouri Sabah al-Dulaimi said that the results of the survey to identify the needs of the labor market in the economic sectors of the technical and vocational disciplines in Iraq constitute a component of the project of TVET reform in Iraq. The results of the labor market survey, which were not available in the previous stages, require everyone to work on development policies aimed at creating the desired balance between the needs of the labor market and the outputs of education, Thousands of universities and institutes
For his part, Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers Advisor Dr. Hamed Khalaf Ahmed said that the release of the results of the labor market assessment and skills analysis survey in the center and the region is the fruit of the project of technical and vocational education and training reform carried out by the Central Bureau of Statistics in cooperation with UNESCO and the British Council. The European Union and the full coordination with the relevant ministries and with the active participation of the private sector, pointing out that the reform project of vocational and technical education and training represents a roadmap that emerged from the strategy of the technical and vocational training and education institutions for the years (2014-2023) Drag the corner in achieving sustainable and comprehensive development in line with the Five-Year Development Plan (2018-2022).
He added that this reform leads to improving the quality of the outputs of technical and vocational education and training to become the main engine of economic growth and development by responding to the requirements of globalization, knowledge-based economy and labor market needs and ensuring the development of its quality in line with international standards and activating the role of private sector partners in formulating policies. The head of the Central Bureau of Statistics Dr. Zia Awad said that the importance of the survey results in strengthening the TVET system in Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan to provide all young people and adults with the necessary skills for employment, decent work, entrepreneurship and lifelong learning and contribute to the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan. Seven sectors (industry, agriculture, construction, IT, hospitality, transport and storage, wholesale and retail) were included.
