The commander of US Central Command, General Joseph Fotel, said on Thursday that the Iranian regime seeks to dominate the countries of the region.
"The end of the battle against Da'ash (still far away) and our mission is still the same," General Fotill told a congressional hearing.
"Extremists from the last stronghold of the organization in Baguoz (northeastern Syria) are still (unprepared) and are ready to return to fighting despite the elimination of their base in Syria," he said.
The commander of the US Central Command said that the efforts of the international coalition continue in a war urging Iraq and Syria.

The commander of the Central Command of the US armed forces (CENTCOM) General Joseph Fotil that Iran is seeking to dominate the Middle East, and its activity in the region is not limited to support Houthis.

"Iran remains a destabilizing factor in the region in the long term," he told a US House hearing on Thursday.

He added that Iran "seeks to be the dominant force in the region and uses its malignant influence and its growing capabilities qualitatively and quantitatively and supports many agents to exert pressure and threaten other countries in the region and to remove the American and Western influence."

"Iran is behind the conflicts in the region and its efforts are not limited to supporting the Houthis," he said.

He pointed out that the truce in Yemen is fragile and difficult to implement, but described as "promising".

In this context, Fotel called on the Arab alliance led by Saudi Arabia, which is conducting a military operation in Yemen, to abide by the rules of armed conflict.
