(Independent) ... US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, urged the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party Massoud Barzani to form the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq as soon as possible.

"The Secretary of State (Pompeo) stressed the importance of forming the Kurdistan Regional Government as soon as possible, in response to the aspirations of the people of the Kurdistan region of Iraq," State Department spokesman Robert Paladino told reporters on Thursday.

At the end of October, the Electoral Commission in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, the victory of the Kurdistan Democratic Party led by Massoud Barzani, a large proportion of the official results of the parliamentary elections held in late September in the Iraqi Kurdistan.

Paladino pointed out that Pompeiro assured Barzani of the United States' determination to continue working with Iraq to destroy the terrorist organization.

The tensions between Baghdad and Erbil intensified after the authorities of the Kurdistan region of Iraq referendum on secession on September 25, 2017, which was considered by the Iraqi authorities unconstitutional and illegal, despite the vote of 93% of the Kurds in favor of secession.
