HE Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al-Humaidi, Director General of the Arab Monetary Fund (AMF), opened the 16th meeting of the Regional Working Group on Enhancing Financial Inclusion in the Arab States at the Le Royal Meridien Hotel, Abu Dhabi. It is noteworthy that the team emanates from the Board of Governors of central banks and Arab monetary institutions, and includes in its membership managers and officials concerned with the issues of financial coverage of those banks and institutions. The meeting, together with the Arab Monetary Fund, will include representatives from the Global Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group, the German Development Agency (GIZ), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the World Bank Group (WB). As well as the Union of Arab Securities Commissions who participate in the meetings of the Group on an ongoing basis.
The panel will discuss a number of important issues and issues, including follow-up to the recommendations of the first Arab Forum for Modern Financial Technologies held on December 12 and 13, 2018 in terms of financial inclusion, including discussion of the proposed establishment of a modern financial regulatory laboratory. The Group will also discuss the subject of modern financial technologies and the protection of consumers of financial services, the gender diversity in financial services of emerging companies, the theme of digital identity and the consolidated database to facilitate customer identification and reduce the cost of compliance with legal risks. The panel will also discuss the issue of responsible finance in enhancing financial inclusion by shedding light on the policies and tools available in this regard, as well as promoting the position of microcredit by reducing credit risk weights within the capital adequacy ratio. In addition, participants will be briefed on progress in applying the G20 principles of digital financial services in the case of Arab countries. Finally, the team will discuss the most important preparations for the Arab 2019 Financial Inclusion Day and the updates of the Regional Initiative for Enhancing Financial Coverage in the Arab Countries (FIARI).
It should be noted that the team is working on developing policies and procedures related to enhancing the financial coverage in the Arab countries, improving the indicators of financial coverage, enhancing the exchange of experiences and experiences among the Arab countries in issues of financial inclusion, and preparing studies and working papers on the conditions of financial inclusion in the Arab countries. , As well as enhancing awareness of financial inclusion and consumer protection issues in financial and banking services.
