Minister of Communications Naeem Al-Rubaie on Tuesday discussed with the head of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Houlin Zaou, ways to develop cooperation in the field of telecommunications.
"Al-Rubaie met with the head of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in the capital Baghdad, and during the meeting, they discussed common issues and means of developing cooperation between the Ministry of Communications and the Organization," the ministry said in a statement received by Mawazine News.
"The importance of Iraq's contacts with international organizations and the transfer of the true picture of the reality of Iraq in various fields, including the telecommunications sector and information technology," Rubaie said.
And "the International Telecommunication Union to support Iraq in international forums through participation in conferences, seminars and joint workshops."
For his part, Zaw, the first president of the International Telecommunication Union to visit Iraq, expressed his happiness to visit Iraq and learn about the reality of communications and information technology and thanks and appreciation for the visit of the Minister of Communications to his residence and support of the International Federation.
ITU is the highest international authority and one of the UN-based organizations based in Geneva. It is responsible for shaping world policy in the telecommunications sector through frequency distribution, geographical division and law-making involving all countries.
On the sidelines of his visit to Baghdad, Minister of Communications Naeem Al-Rubaie met with the Secretary General of the Arab League for Communications Technologies, Mohammed bin Amr.
