An economic artery will link Iraq to Jordan for decades

Economy , 2018/12/31 10:08

Amman and Baghdad agreed on Saturday to complete the initial agreement for the oil pipeline, which will extend from Basra to Aqaba in the first quarter of 2019, in addition to the opening of border crossings and trade facilitation.

This came according to a statement issued today at the conclusion of talks between Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and his Jordanian counterpart Omar al-Razzaz, which took place in Baghdad.

It was also agreed that technical committees from both countries would arrive at details of the transfer and cost of export of Iraqi crude oil to Jordan before 2 February 2019.

The two sides agreed during the talks to take a number of steps to strengthen trade and economic relations between the two countries, the most prominent of which:

- Opening the border crossings (Al Karama-Trebil) for the management of perishable goods before February 2, 2019 and include all types of goods thereafter.

- The two sides agreed to establish a joint industrial zone on an area of 24 square kilometers.

- Granting facilities to Iraqi goods imported through Aqaba, whose ultimate destination is Iraq, which is 75% of the fees charged by Aqaba Economic Authority.

- Exemption of a number of Jordanian goods exported to Iraq from customs duties as of February 2, 2019.

- Connecting the two electricity networks in Iraq and Jordan: The two sides agreed to take measures to accelerate the process of exchange of electric power between the two countries.

"The economic and trade cooperation between Iraq and Jordan will increase as it is agreed to establish a joint industrial zone of 24 square kilometers," the Iraqi prime minister told a news conference after the talks.

"The issue of customs exemptions with Jordan has been discussed," he said.

For his part, Al-Razzaz told the press conference that he agreed with his Iraqi counterpart that the port of Aqaba be an export platform for Iraqi oil. Describing Iraq as the "lung" of Jordan, according to the site "Alsumaria" Iraqi.

He added that "the meeting witnessed talks on the issues of joint cooperation between the two countries, and talk about investment opportunities between the two countries, in addition to transport and trade exchange, and resolving the outstanding problems for years."

In April 2013, Jordan and Iraq signed a framework agreement for a 1700 km pipeline project at a cost of about $ 18 billion and a capacity of 1 million barrels per day to transport Iraqi oil to Jordan.

The pipeline is supposed to transport crude oil from the giant Rumaila field in Basra, southern Iraq, to export ports in the Jordanian port of Aqaba, providing Jordan with part of its oil needs.

Al-Razzaz arrived in Baghdad on Monday for an official visit to discuss economic and security cooperation and the file of the industrial zone on the border with Iraq. link

The only luck I see is that I happen to be looking at the CBI website at the exact moment that 1190 disappears into ... a fraction. Watching what is done. Not what is said.

MilitiaMan » January 1st, 2018

I am not so sure, the T is missing anything at all. As for cards, he looks to have played the Trump card once again. Now depending on if this was today or last week may matter not, as it clearly shows they have a deal... imo.. ~MM

America and China vow to enhance trade cooperation

1st January, 2019

The Chinese and US presidents exchanged letters pledging to strengthen cooperation despite a severe trade dispute between them, on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, according to official Chinese media.

Tension between Beijing and Washington escalated in 2018 on the back of trade disputes, but US President Donald Trump froze new customs duties and announced Saturday "great progress" following a call to his counterpart Xi Jinping. In the exchange of letters Tuesday, Chinese President Hu Jintao stressed the importance of working with the United States "to advance Sino-US relations and enhance coordination, cooperation and stability," according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Trump praised the last four decades of China-US diplomacy and welcomed his "strong friendship" with the Chinese president, Xinhua said. Washington and China exchanged customs duties on goods worth more than $ 300 billion last year, triggering a trade dispute that began to affect profits and led to a fall in capital markets.

Trump launched the trade war following complaints about China's "unfair" practice, which were also expressed by the EU, Japan and others. But since the two presidents agreed to a truce on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires, little signs of progress have emerged, amid the absence of new threats from Trump. LINK

At the age of twenty .. Controversy about the importance of the euro and its future

Today - the first of January - the twentieth anniversary of the start of the euro currency trading unified euro.

This year's event goes without celebrating the symbol of the continent. Financial and monetary problems continue to plague many European countries, while the debate over the importance and future of the currency continues.

Although European officials have stressed that the single currency has prevented prices from rising, the euro's image is still inherent to inflation and the contraction of the purchasing power of many Europeans.

Today, the single currency does not seem so immune as to make it a mature and durable global currency, especially as international alliances are re-formed economically and politically.
