WASHINGTON (Reuters) - US President Donald Trump's visit to Iraq has put US troops in a very bad position, retired US general Mark Hunting said on Saturday.
"What the president should not do is politicize the event, but unfortunately some of his comments were for political purposes, and that's what he did," Newsweek quoted the report as saying.
"Trump has put all members of the army in a very bad position because the army has regulations against that exactly," he said.
"The US president has raised specific concerns over his lies about the army's salaries and has been cheering," he said, adding that the 10 percent increase was only 2.9 percent in the 2019 budget, 0.2 percent more than in 2018.
For his part, retired general James Marks also criticized Trump's speech at the base of Al-Assad by saying that "Trump should have focused in his speech on the troops and not on the spotlight." Ending / 25 z
