The Church of the Virgin Mary of the Armenian Orthodox was opened in Baghdad after being rehabilitated under the "Tamkeen" initiative launched by the Central Bank under the supervision of the Association of Iraqi Private Banks, while the completion period was 90 days only.
The rehabilitation of the church in the central district of Baghdad included changing the concrete floor in Marmar with the wood wall coverings, as well as changing the electrical system and the lighting system in full. The Church of the Virgin Mary is located in the courtyard of Al-Maidan opposite Al-Rasheed Street. It is the oldest church built in Baghdad. It was built in 1640 by the Armenians on the piece of land granted to them by the Ottoman Sultan Murad IV. It is also a shrine throughout the year for the various Baghdadis.
