The Deputy Prime Minister for Energy and Oil Minister Thamir Ghadhban said Tuesday that Iraq imports 10 million liters of gasoline a day from the world markets, noting that gas oil (kerosene) most of it imports to meet the need for electricity.
"Iraq after 2003 was importing quantities of petroleum products, especially gasoline, gas oil, liquid gas and even white oil," al-Ghadhban said in an interview with the newspaper Al-Sabah. "After 2003, Iraq was able to make do with white oil as well as liquid gas. "It imports gasoline up to 10 million liters per day from world markets and on a competitive basis, and gas oil (kerosene) mostly imports to meet the need for electricity and what is produced is sufficient for domestic consumption as fuel for cars and generators."
He added that "the power plants that work on gas, some of which is now working on gas oil as alternative fuel is expensive," adding that "the occupation of gangs," calling for "criminal caused major damage in the refinery Baiji, whose refining capacity accounted for about 55 percent of energy Liquidation in Iraq and went out of work. "
Al-Ghadhban said that "through the national staff in the refinery and the refinery and heavy engineering equipment and the Ministry of Industry were able as a team, the restoration of a line of two lines so that the refining capacity now is 45 thousand barrels per day and will soon rise to 60 thousand barrels of the previous refining capacity, which was 280 thousand barrels , But now do not produce gasoline, and in the near future after the rehabilitation of gasoline refineries will be produced.
