The President of the Republic, Barham Salih, on Saturday, to Pope Francis I invited to visit Or and the house of Ibrahim Khalil.
"The President of the Republic Barham Salih met in the Vatican this morning, His Holiness Pope Francis I," the Presidency said in a statement received by Mawazine News.
He added that "the official reception of the President of the Republic in the Apostolic Palace, where His Holiness Pope Francis at the head of his future, as well as a number of Cardinals and bishops in the Vatican."
During the meeting, the president stressed that "what the Christians, Yazidis, Muslims and other Iraqis have been subjected to genocide by the organization of the terrorist advocate is not related to the teachings of the Islamic religion," referring to "the history of peaceful coexistence between all the sects in Iraq."
The President of the Republic, "the importance of achieving a genuine national reconciliation that includes all, and contribute directly to the achievement of peace," stressing the "importance of all efforts to achieve this reconciliation."
Saleh explained that "solving the crises experienced by some countries in the region comes through dialogue and understanding," noting "the importance of strengthening efforts to bring peace and stability in the region."
The President of the Republic called on "the Pope to visit Ur and the house of Ibrahim Al-Khalil, where the beginning of heavenly religions", and promised the Pope to meet the invitation in a timely manner.
For his part, Pope Francis stressed "the need to move forward in bringing stability to Iraq and the whole region," noting "the importance of giving priority to the language of dialogue and understanding and promoting peaceful coexistence in it."

Iraqi President Barham Salih called on Pope Francis I to visit the house of the Prophet Ibrahim al-Khalil in the historic city of Ur in the southern province of Dhi Qar.
Baghdad - Sputnik . "The president of the republic has invited the pope to visit Ur and the house of Ibrahim al-Khalil, where the start of heavenly religions is taking
place," a statement issued by the president said.
Pope Francis received the Iraqi president at the Apostolic Palace Saturday morning, and the meeting was held on the sidelines of the latter's visit to the Forum of the Mediterranean Dialogue in Rome.
The city of Urum is the capital of the Sumerian state. It is believed that the Prophet Ibrahim was born there and receives thousands of Christian pilgrims every year.
The Iraqi president stressed "the importance of achieving a genuine national reconciliation that includes all, and contribute directly to achieving peace," stressing the "importance of all efforts to achieve this reconciliation."

The Iraqi president met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov last Thursday on the sidelines of the "Dialogue of the Mediterranean" forum in Rome, where both sides stressed the need to strengthen military and security cooperation to eliminate the terroristorganization .
Iraq announced the liberation of its entire territory from the grip of the terrorist organization on 10 December last, after more than 3 years of war.
