The State Department announced on Thursday that Iraq was elected president of the Conference of States Parties on Explosive Remnants of War.
"The 12th Conference of the Fifth Protocol on Explosive Remnants of War with the participation of Iraq was held at United Nations Headquarters in Geneva," the ministry said in a statement.
During the Conference, Iraq was elected as President of the Twelfth Conference of States Parties to the High Contracting Parties to Protocol V on Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) of the Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects.
