Economic expert explains the impact of sanctions against Iran on Iraq

(Baghdad: Al-Furat News) Economist Bassim Jameel Antoine explained the impact of US sanctions against Iran and its repercussions on the Iraqi market.

Antoine told the {Euphrates News} that "the import of the Iraqi market from Iran reached in the past years to 13 billion dollars and US sanctions on Iran will lead to the scarcity of Iranian goods in Iraq," noting that "there are other ways to import irregular (smuggling) to enter the goods to Iraq".

"Iraq will benefit from the devaluation of the Iranian toman, which will therefore lead to a drop in Iranian goods," he said, adding that "systemic and governmental issues are not subject to proper sanctions as well as imports through the private energy sector."

Antoine said that "the exclusion of Iraq from US sanctions on Iran is for oil and energy; but this exception has a specific period and will not spend its amounts to Iran, but will remain frozen assets after the solution of the problem," noting that "
