And congratulates the elected officials, namely the President of the Council, Mr. Mohamed Halaboussi and his two Vice-Chairmen, Hassan Al-Kaabi and Bashir Haddad. The Special Representative expressed his appreciation for the perseverance of the President of the Council, who presided over the meeting, and commended the sense of responsibility that motivated the candidates to compete for leadership positions in the House of Representatives. Aware of the results of the vote and congratulating the elected officials, Mr. Kubiš expressed his deep disappointment at the lack of access by any qualified women to the Presidency of the House of Representatives and urged MPs and political leaders to fulfill their pledges and elect women to other leading positions in the House of Representatives and ministerial posts And other senior positions in the next government.
The Special Representative urged the forces and political blocs to expedite the process of electing the President and then the Prime Minister. This will be followed by the formation of a pro-reform, transitional government based on cooperation and partnership between the various components and categories of Iraq. It is only through these conditions that a government can regain the confidence of citizens and act quickly to meet their demands for improved public services, job creation, development, economic reform, protection of Iraq's interests and full respect for its sovereignty and independence.
