Tuesday 19 December

BAGHDAD (Reuters) -
The United Arab Emirates newspaper Al-Khaleej newspaper on Tuesday uncovered documents from Iraqi and Lebanese foreign ministries on the bombing of the Iraqi embassy in Beirut , while the documents included confessions by Iraqi politicians.

The newspaper quoted a source in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry as saying that "the documents relating to the bombing of the Iraqi embassy in Beirut has completely disappeared from the archives of the ministry," noting that "there are confessions, photos and documented information about the suicide bombing that targeted the embassy on December 15, 1981 has disappeared from the archive The foreign ministries of Iraq and Lebanon at the same time. "

The source added that "the file of the bombing of the Iraqi embassy in Beirut was stolen from the Iraqi intelligence service after the entry of US forces to Iraq and transferred to the outside," noting that "the official documents in the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Iraq and Lebanon has also disappeared after 2014."

"The documents included confessions condemning Iraqi politicians."

The bombing of the Iraqi embassy in Beirut at the time killed the Iraqi ambassador to Beirut, Abdul Razzaq Lefta, and Bilqis al-Rawi, the wife of Arab poet Nizar Qabbani, who was the secretary of the embassy's press adviser Harith Taqa.

According to an Iraqi legal source, "the concealment of documents came after a lawsuit filed by Lebanese lawyer Tariq Shalabi to pursue the killers of Bilqis al-Rawi wife of Nizar Qabbani," pointing out that "opening the file will carry Iraqi officials responsible for the operation."
