Economy News Baghdad:

The Iraqi ambassador to Ankara, Hisham Ali al-Akbar al-Alawi, expressed his country's desire to strengthen its trade relations with Turkey, indicating that the volume of trade exchange reached 30 billion dollars between Iraq and Turkey.

"There is a strategic relationship between Turkey and Iraq, we represent the center of the world, and we are two neighboring countries, so our mutual relations are very important in this context," Alawi said in a speech delivered by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Shanli Region of southeast Turkey.

Al-Alawi pointed out that the two countries share many common historical, economic and religious factors in addition to customs and traditions.

"Our countries complement each other economically. Iraq has a large oil production, which reaches $ 4 million a day, and we aim to raise the production and export ceiling."

The Iraqi ambassador stressed that his country needs to develop its sectors in the fields of energy and agriculture, expressing confidence in the experiences of Turkey in these areas.

He pointed out that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached 30 billion dollars annually, while it was less than one billion dollars between 2003 and 2004.

He stressed that the two countries also possess the necessary capacities to raise the volume of trade between them, pointing out that Iraq is going through a difficult phase, as a result of the fight against the organization "Daash" terrorist.

"We will work to rebuild our cities and also focus on diversifying our economy. This is an additional opportunity for you (Turkish businessmen). We know that you have a lot of experience in this field, and our businessmen want to work with you."
